Prof. Dr. Igor M. Sauer is Senior Surgeon at the Department of Surgery and head of Experimental Surgery, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He is owner of multiple patents and author of more than 120 publications in international peer reviewed journals and book chapters in the field of bio-artificial organs, tissue-engineering and transplantation. Furthermore, he conducts research and development in the field of mixed reality head-mounted displays for image-guided surgery and virtual reality simulation in surgical practice. In this context and in collaboration with the Excellence Cluster Image Knowledge Gestaltung, he established the Future|OR, a living lab in which an interdisciplinary team examines image-based operating procedures and training scenarios using virtual and mixed reality in visceral surgery.
