This workshop is aimed at visionary people! Economic, social and ecological aspects are becoming more and more important. XR offers new ways to involve people. We will develop new ideas and potentials with immersive media. The goal? A roadmap for a better life.

This is about? This workshop is about innovation development for XR and VR in speed format. Here you will find tools and teams to develop new project ideas for XR and VR. Choose your industry, whether advertising, urban infrastructure, education or creative industry. We have one goal. The ideas should improve our life and have a social, economic or ecological impact. From here on, we develop business model approaches, perhaps even disruptive ones. You will be surprised what we are able to develop in just 2 hours.
What method do we use? The method is called Open Innovation. In changing teams you build up on the ideas of others. For that you put the consumer needs in the center. Based on this we develop a business model approach. Method kit:  Open Innovation, Design Thinking, Value Proposition Design and Lean Canvas (Osterwalder).
Am I suitable? Previous knowledge about tech, immersive storytelling or product development is not required. But beware: you are only successful if you are open to new thinking. Out of the box thinking is urgently needed.

What do I have to bring? Yourself, with all your creativity, knowledge and ideas.

AI for storytelling and film: scriptwriting and workflows
Fireside Chat on the future role of Artificial Intelligence for Storytelling. More and more tools aiming to streamline the creative and production processes in the film & TV industries are beeing infused with algorithms and machine learning - and we will soon loose the ability to distinguish between the works of humans and machines. Will AI help or interfere with the creative process? Will scriptwriting algorithms create just variations of existing scripts (and stories) over and over, or can they open a groundbreaking new chapter in the history of storytelling? How will AI impact the way we write, produce, distribute and see films? Should we look forward to or fear the arrival of machines in something that is at the core of humanity: storytelling? In this fire side chat, two frontrunners at the intersection of film and technology will discuss the future role of artificial intelligence for storytelling, scriptwriting and workflows.

An App a day keeps the doctor away – a better life with digital health?
Digital Health – what exactly does it mean? Nanobots in our blood vessels, transmitting micro doses of medicine whenever needed so we can live forever? Not really. It’s more about digitally generated visual aids that help physicians during the operation in real time. Virtual reality that can be used for pain treatment, trauma therapy and against anxiety disorder. Playful, interactive and comforting health games which inform young patients about a normal life with a rare disease. Already existing consumer devices that track pulse, sleep and performance and how they can be connected to medical professionals. It’s about data sets and data security at the same time. Digital Health is still in its early stages, but several players on the market already make use of it. Now we have to find humane ways and ethical guidelines to make them work for us.

Artificial Intelligence in Filmproduction
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Workshop on Artificial Intelligence with useful and practical examples
Artificial Intelligence can be useful in unburdening the process-heavy work in pre-production and making film budgets and schedules more efficient. In this workshop, we will offer a hands-on demonstration of AI software from RivetAI that makes pre-production planning more efficient, and also augments storytelling through script visualization and dialogue generation.
Pre-production:
The pre-production stage starts with a script breakdown. Natural Language Processing (NLP), trained on specific datasets, extracts all of the details pertinent to film producers, such as props and shooting locations. A grueling process that typically takes several weeks is cut down to a few minutes with 90% human-level accuracy. Once the elements in each scene are extracted, algorithms and rule-sets can be employed to estimate fairly detailed budget estimates for production. The scheduling process alone—figuring out cast and location availability, cost constraints, and even weather—can lead to millions or billions of combinations to find the optimal timing. This is where AI, compared to manual, heuristics-based ways, can achieve at least 10-15% fewer inefficiencies, translating to significant cost and time savings for productions.
Storytelling:
From a script, a graphical visualization depicting the characters, their interactions and sentiments can be generated. Algorithms are used to analyze character development in a given script and identify plot holes and find continuity gaps at a glance. This is especially valuable for TV series that run multiple seasons, or interactive story lines.
We will also demo how AI is generating its own character dialog by utilizing context and producing more meaningful interactions, including humorous exchanges. We will show how this was used in two recently produced short films where the scripts and dialogues were AI written. AI-generated dialogues brings certain randomness into the process and can help writers and producers explore new creative avenues.

The business benefits of IMF
Limited Capacity seats available

As content producers increasingly deliver more content to more markets in more languages and more formats, the spiralling complexity of workflows and scale of storage required is becoming a limitation to productivity. The Interoperable Master Format (IMF) promises to deliver significant efficiencies to content mastering, versioning and storage. The DPP and SMPTE recently published TPS 2121:2018 IMF Application ProRes (DPP), delivering an IMF specification tailored to the needs of broadcasters and online content providers, and the DPP is now working with producers, distributors and technology vendors to deliver successful implementations. Join Mark and Rowan to learn about the business benefits that IMF brings, the tools it provides to enable those benefits, and to reflect on where we are in the industry's journey to realising them.

Cinematic VR Workshop: Introduction and Ask me Anything
Limited Capacity filling up

Too many movie theater seats remain empty these days, despite all the plus sides like fluffy carpets, comfy chairs, and good memories of first kisses. As business is not as good as it used to be, movie theater owners are open for experiments. Like making some space for VR. While consumer devices still struggle to get a foot in the door, VR Arcades do quite well. One great challenge remains: VR installations for multiple users need space – which is well equipped at best. Hello movie theaters.

At VR NOW Con, cinema owners will get a deeper knowledge of technologies that will enable them to show immersive content to their audiences without too much reconstruction effort. A first step will be Cinematic VR as a shared experience. To demo the new possibilities, our partner INVR.SPACE will set up 50 frame synced Oculus Gos in a real movie theater at our conference venue and turn it into an Immersive Cinema.

At the Cinematic VR Movie Theater, we will present immersive content that's suitable to be shown in this context. VR installations and room scale experiences with 6DoF, live acting or haptic feedback are a logical next step. A workshop for cinema owners and VR producers interested in a new clientele will be informed about the tech, the biz and the content. Let's bring VR into the movies and save them from extinction.

A 90 minute long and highly intensive workshop about how to implement immersive media in movie theaters. The first 45 minutes: immerse yourself into new business opportunities, find out about the current state of technology and set ups, about major and indie content, about marketing and distribution. The second 45 minutes: As me Anything. Experts will find answers to all of your questions.

Experiential Design & Emerging Forms of Immersive Storytelling
Voices of VR podcast host Kent Bye will be presenting his Archetypal Experiential Design Framework, which breaks down an immersive experience into four major components of  quality, context, character, and story. He'll talk about the four qualities of presence, the twelve major domains of human experience, new ways to think about character & temperament, and the two major types of immersive storytelling. The Yang Archetypal Journey is about making choices and taking action that invites the audience to become an active participant in a story of individuation. While the Yin Archetypal Journey is about connecting to the audience to their own sensory experience of embodiment, emotions, and presence to dissolve the ego and recognize systemic relationships and interconnectedness of all things.  We'll interpret different experiences as seen through this lens and explore the tradeoffs of qualities of presence, mashing up contexts, creating nuanced characters, and balancing player agency with authorial control.
